Astoria Family Dentist Breath Treatment

Breath Treatment

Most of the time (85 to 90 percent), bad breath originates in the mouth. It is caused by bacteria in our mouths. This bacteria is breaking down food debris which creates by-products called volatile sulfur compounds. For some conditions, the odor may be caused by systemic conditions., infections in the mouth or lungs, and stomach upset. A determination will be made on how to best treat your bad breath.

Hygiene

Good dental care begins with proper hygiene. Bacteria-containing plaque constantly builds up on the teeth and must be removed through brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. Plaque that is not removed can harden into tartar and can eventually lead to periodontal disease. A big part of maintaining you oral health is having regular dental visits. During your appointment, we will check your teeth and gums for evidence of decay or disease. We will screen you for oral cancer, update your medical history, and provide fluoride treatments as necessary. Our hygienists will also provide instructions to facilitate better home care. We accomplish all of this in a friendly and comfortable environment!
